Annual Moby Dick Marathon Reading

The annual Moby Dick Marathon returned to the New Bedford Whaling Museum, following a two-year “virtual” hiatus. The marathon is an annual celebration marking Herman Melville’s 1841 departure from the Port of New Bedford aboard the whaleship Acushnet. The weekend event features a 25-hour reading by scholars, students, fishermen and community leaders. This year’s marathon reading was kicked off by actress Taylor Schilling (best known for her role in Orange is the New Black), and was attended by hundreds during three days of activities in New Bedford.
