Street Scenes From Porto

What better opportunity to combine sightseeing with photography than joining a ten-day “Photo Tour of Portugal with Pete Souza”. About twenty travelling paparazzi joined former White House photographer Pete Souza on a trip that included stops in Porto, Lisbon, and San Miguel.

Our first stop was Porto, a coastal town in Northern Portugal with a very old-world feel. We spent hours walking along the Douro River waterfront, and exploring the winding streets of the city. A tour guide gave us running commentary on the sites, while Pete offered tips on how to photograph the people, architecture, and vibrant street life.

With his background in photojournalism, Pete encouraged our group to go beyond just photographing the sites, and to include people within our images to tell a more interesting story. He offered tips and suggestions, covering everything from camera settings and composition, to ways to approach photographing people in public locations.
