The Lush Landscapes of San Miguel

The final stop of our “Portugal with Pete” tour was the island of San Miguel in the Azores. Part of an archipelago of nine volcanic islands, San Miguel enjoys a very mild, subtropical climate. We travelled by small bus around the island, taking in the spectacular scenery, and stopping at the occasional small town or village to take in our next meal.

We stayed in the small coastal city of Ponta Delgada during our visit to San Miguel. Early morning and late afternoon walks around the town offered relaxing bookends to a day of sightseeing. You could wander through the narrow streets, in search of the perfect malasada or Pasteis de Nata, just to keep you going until dinner.
