As the number of confirmed Covid-19 cases in New Bedford, MA passed 1000 in early May, efforts were stepped-up to make testing more broadly available throughout the region. As part of that effort, Southcoast Health recently set-up mobile testing facilities at the New Bedford waterfront to make it easier for workers in the region’s fishing industry to get tested for the virus.
On May 7, Southcoast Health brought their “Wellness Van” to one of the area’s leading seafood processing facilities to help screen employees for the virus. The sight of nurses and lab technicians donning their hazmat suits and setting-up testing stations is an all-too-familiar sign of the times, but still a surprising one when it pops-up in a local neighborhood.
Earlier in the same week, Southcoast Health set-up a similar mobile testing facility at New Bedford’s Pier 3. Important work being done to help workers in one of the region’s leading industries.
