The push to develop alternative energy sources has come to New Bedford, MA. Vineyard Wind, an offshore wind development company, is using New Bedford as a base for building the “first commercial-scale” offshore wind project in the country. When completed, 62 wind turbines will deliver electricity for an estimated 400,000 homes and businesses in the region. Taking photos at golf tournaments is a unique way of driving home all of the tips you’ve ever been given about how to play golf. You get to see players of all skill levels competing under intense pressure. You get to see approaches that work, and approaches that don’t. After spending countless hours shooting and editing images from week-long tournaments, some common themes start to filter through. As if to announce the arrival of Spring, the New Bedford Half Marathon took place on March 20, 2022, after a two year hiatus. Nearly 2000 runners entered this year’s event, which many use as a warm-up for the Boston Marathon in April. The Providence River winds its way from just below the capitol building, through the downtown area, and out to the harbor near India Point. You can capture a wide range of moody settings by setting out early. College campuses dominate much of the real estate in the city; Brown,…
After months spent indoors, behind masks, and in relative isolation, people were anxious to get back outside this Spring. As the weather began to warm-up in April and May, people took to the streets and sidewalks to enjoy being outside and around other people. Some ventured with caution, still wearing masks and maintaining their distance. As vaccinations increased, and guidelines relaxed, it started to feel almost normal again. The Boston Common and Charles River areas attracted the largest numbers. People…
The history of New Bedford, MA is closely tied to the fishing industry. Much of the town’s early wealth came from the whaling industry, which is still celebrated with an annual public reading of Moby Dick. New Bedford still ranks as the nation’s largest fishing seaport (as measured in dollars), with scalloping generating the greatest revenue. Walking around the piers of New Bedford, it’s obvious that fishing is still a harsh, difficult way to make a living. The fishing trawlers…
